Ok I did not attempt to paint it but two days ago when I was painting off the Lemieux island bridge I saw something. It was big and it popped up out of the south side of the scene as I was brushing out the shadow side of some waves. From my vantage point on the bridge I saw a large brown thing emerge and go under. The size of a Labrador, this thing looked to me like an otter or a beaver. I did see a beaver about that size grazing the grass beside the sculpture park a half a kilometre west of me but that was three years ago, and nobody would go near it. I scanned the water to see if the thing would reappear a few metres downriver but nothing came up. My understanding is that mammals like beavers and otters need air. So what was it? My friends say it was a sturgeon.
